How We Started
In the spring of 2020, as the world came to a standstill during the COVID-19 pandemic, our founder Meaghan found herself adjusting to life at home while continuing her career in medical sales. During this time, she began noticing a striking Siamese cat frequenting her front yard.
At first, Meaghan assumed the cat belonged to a neighbor. But it soon became clear that this beautiful feline wasn’t alone, she had kittens in tow and was seeking refuge. The mother cat, later known as Sushi, responded to her name from a previous life, so it stuck. Sushi was clearly a former pet, now left to survive on the streets, abandoned by her previous owner.

After some time had passed, Meaghan and her three-cats moved to a new home, but the story didn’t end there. One day, a call came in: five tiny kittens were found crying, hungry, and alone and from the same colony where Sushi and her kittens had been rescued.
The kittens were only five days old and required bottle feeding and around-the-clock care. Three of the kittens were transferred to another rescue for continued care and adoption (when old enough), while two stayed with Meaghan and joined the growing clan. They were named Sage and Indy, becoming the fourth and fifth members of the original Purrty Pals family.
Since then, Meaghan and her family have always opened up their home to foster cats and cats in need. What began as one act of compassion soon grew into a mission, and a movement. Over the past 5 years, Meaghan and her family have personally fostered dozens of cats and helped build a network of caring, like-minded individuals dedicated to rescue and rehabilitation that make up our foster homes.
As the rescue continued to grow, Meaghan partnered with trusted and skilled fellow cat rescuers who now play vital roles in helping cats with severe medical needs, long-term conditions, bottle babies, medication administration, and much more. Together alongside our trusted Veterinarian clinics, we ensure that even the most vulnerable cats receive the care, attention, and love they need to heal and thrive.
Today, The Purrty Pals is a foster-based cat rescue with over 50+ cats in our care at any given time. Our cats are housed in loving foster homes throughout Southern California, where they receive individualized care, socialization, and a second chance at life.
We’re proud of how far we’ve come and even more excited about the lives we’ve yet to save. Because at The Purrty Pals, we believe, “Every Kitty Deserves a Loving Home.”
